We’re seeing a growing movement calling for “fair trials” in cases of sexual and violent offences. Let us be clear: we fully support fairness in the justice system—it is a cornerstone of any civilised society.
But what concerns us deeply is how this conversation is being co-opted by those who use it to blame victims, dismiss red flags, and cast doubt on survivors’ credibility. Phrases like “there was no evidence” are increasingly used not to promote justice—but to rewrite it.
This kind of narrative doesn’t just distort the facts—it endangers vulnerable people. It makes survivors less likely to come forward. It leaves families questioning themselves. It protects harmful behaviour under the guise of fairness.
In this blog, we share a real judge’s words from a serious case involving one of our own. We do this not to sensationalise, but to expose the truth of what evidence really looks like, and to stand firmly against the culture of denial that continues to silence victims.
